Ahh, the opening weekend of my absolute favorite time of the year. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, let it be known–I love the holiday season. I love the hustle and bustle of holiday parties and shopping and cooking and spending time with friends and loved ones and I am really, really in the holiday spirit this year.

I’ve already started my shopping (though nothing, and I repeat, nothing is for The Boyfriend, except for the coal and switches I have on backorder) and I can’t wait to wrap everything and put it under the tree I am getting. I am getting an actual Christmas tree for the first time ever! It’s only going to be a 4-footer but I get to decorate it and everything. I am going to start cleaning my living room today in preparation. I think I will probably put it on the chest/coffee table/thing that I have books and candles on, because it’ll be up off the floor and kind of out of the way. Provided my cats don’t climb on it. That would spell disaster as sure as I’m sitting here.

Is it retarded that I am excited about decorating a 4-foot Christmas tree? And that I plan on putting up stockings and lights too? Maybe. But I really want it to feel like Christmas in my house (apartment). I know my parents will have the house decorated but it’s just not the same when I don’t live there anymore.

Let’s recap the reasons I am excited about the holidays:

1.) Parties…lots of parties. I literally have at least one party a weekend until Christmas. It’s CRAZY! But it’ll be a lot of fun. I do have to figure out which CD I am bringing to one party and what other item I am bringing to my church Christmas party. I also have to find something to wear to my semi-formal company Christmas party at a swanky hotel.

2.) Presents. I LOVE to buy things for people. My best friends from college love telling about how I pretty much forced them to open their presents our freshman year because I was so excited about what I was giving them. I like knowing that I’ve got something that will make someone happy. I have good ideas for some people and I’ve started the shopping on others. I can’t wait to get them all wrapped up and under my tree. I am NOT leaving my shopping until Christmas Eve this year, no sir!

3.) People. I have a great group of friends and I am excited about spending the holiday season celebrating with them. I also have the most wonderful boyfriend a girl could ask for and this will be our first Christmas and New Year’s Eve together (hopefully the first of many) with both our families.

4.) 24 hours of A Christmas Story. It doesn’t get any more Christmas-y than that.
