Big ups to my other boyfriend Zach for using a great song in the soundtrack to his genius show last night. Howie Day played at SMU back in 2000 and I was able to catch him for the low low price of $5. There is a great little coffee place in the student union with tons of seating and a half-stage in the front corner. I knew that seeing him at the time was pretty lucky, because this kid had some musical chops. He created all his samples live on stage, and his songs had great lyrics, which counts for a lot with me. I think he was only 18 or so at the time. I picked up a copy of his self-promoted, independently funded CD Australia and haven’t looked back. John Mayer, eat your cold, dead Top 40 heart out. Ryan Cabrera, he was rocking better hair than yours before you probably picked up a guitar. I believe him when he sings about love, which is more than I can say for the two of you.
Tonight my real boyfriend and I are going to see a screening of Kung Fu Hustle, which should be interesting.
