Suddenly, I’m in love with the radio!
There is a new station in DFW that plays pretty much non-stop, random as hell, put-the-CD-collection-on-shuffle music with NO annoying morning show and very few commercials. Normally I listen to NPR or a CD in the mornings, but I have been listening to this new station constantly since I finally managed to check it out. One of their bumpers claims it’s just like an iPod (”except your kid won’t have to show you how to use it”) and it’s pretty much the truth. It doesn’t quell my longing and need to actually own an iPod, but it helps a little bit. This morning I heard The Bangles, Dave Matthews Band, and a random handful of 80’s songs that I have heard maybe once or twice on the radio before.
After a conversation with my boyfriend about public transportation the other night, I am considering starting to take the DART to work. I absolutely loathe driving to work in the mornings…traffic drives me absolutely wonky. Many people are stupid anyway, but put them behind the wheel of a car and they’re stupid with a big metal WEAPON. According to my mother, I’m going to get arrested on account of screaming at stupid bitches in SUVs that cut me off and nearly hit my poor car, so maybe DART would be the better option here.
It would actually take me the same amount of time to drive to work as it would to park at Mockingbird Station, take the Red Line north and then transfer to a bus that takes me to Addison Transit Center. That’s at one end of Addison Circle, where I work. I’d leave about 15 minutes earlier than I normally do, and get to work about 15 minutes earlier. I’d get to not fight traffic, catch up on reading, eat breakfast, wake up, and save big time gas money. If I ended up taking the DART often, I would buy the monthly pass for $40. Then I’d likely spend only $20-40 in additional gas for the month, cutting my gas costs down by $20. More money for me=good. Not driving=good.
I think I may make a trial run next week after I get paid. It could be fun. I know, at least, that I can take the rail all the way to my friend’s house because the Downtown Plano stop is like, next to her porch. It’s ridiculously close. I love public transportation, and maybe I’ll just start to use it more. Dallas ain’t Chicago, NY or DC by any stretch of the imagination, but maybe it’s not as bad as I think.
