quick hits: the sick as a dog edition

watching: lots of Bravo reruns, The Office, 30 Rock

listening: the new R.E.M. album, Accelerate

reading: Designing Successful e-Learning by Michael Allen

I have been felled by the mighty bronchitis this week…today is the first time I’ve actually been able to do anything that involves cognitive functioning. I even took sick days from work, which I never do. If it’s bad enough that I can’t be in the office, I merely work from home. But I just didn’t do any work at all yesterday, which was a little weird, to be honest. I have caught up on all my DVR’ed TV however.

I also haven’t done any writing all week, which is also a little weird since I’ve gotten in the habit of working on it every day. I guess a little bit of a forced clean slate mindset isn’t a bad thing. :-) Now I guess I just need to disinfect the eeePC…

quick hits: delaying the inevitable

As I’m coasting over the top of Hump Day and seeing the end in my line of sight, I’m going to delay my work just a few minutes more to spout off whatever’s in my head right now:

- I have an awesome husband who laughs at my silly off the cuff jokes and goes to kill our dinner when I don’t feel like cooking. I am lucky.

- I haven’t gotten to write a single word of my own writing this week. I have to fix that tonight, seriously, even though I am so sick of being in front of the computer I could perish from it. And if you know me, you know I LOVE my computer. I may be kickin’ it old skool and writing on actual paper just to mix it up a little bit.

- I picked up a guitar and played for the first time in over a year the other night. It felt good, a welcome weight in my hands. My fingertips are in need of serious re-callusing, but I learned a new song. God bless the songwriters who inspire me and write beautiful music with five easy chords. They make me feel like I maybe could turn out something halfway decent one of these days. Thanks to the relocation of a good friend and partner in crime, I am starting to feel like my old self again when it comes to music. It’s nice to see MOL Junior and The Sound and the Fury creating beautiful music again, too. Ahh, I miss the halcyon days when they didn’t make fun of my shitty guitar playing and encouraged me to write as much music as three chords could contain. You guys are awesome.

- I should actually work so that I can go home tonight and enjoy not working.

quick hits: the sunday procrastination edition

- My alarm is going to go off in 5 hours so I can get to work early and get a jump on my day. Why aren’t I in bed sleeping?

- I really want the new Guitar Hero III.

- I also really want Leopard and another gig of RAM. And for the hinge on my iBook to be fixed.

- I updated my calendar with all my project dates and synched it to my PDA. I feel more organized now but possibly in a blind panic.

- I went as Kelly Taylor, gunshot wound victim for the Halloween party yesterday. Shawn went as Emo Orange.

- I am, once again, going to attempt NaNoWriMo. I think that if I can just break out of my “must not write crap” mindset and write a little crap in with my brilliance, I might actually succeed.

- I’m going to bed. I hate it when the weekend is over.

over the hump (and the lady lumps)

I figure it’s no longer kind to leave that scary Fergie pic at the top of my blog.  Seriously, that thing scarred me for life and took away my childhood.  Which, of course, is why I had to share it with all of you.

It’s Thursday, which means I am one step closer to Friday and a weekend’s worth of relaxation.  I’m going to do fun stuff like laundry, dishes, and working on backing up all my files before I reinstall OS X.  But honestly, after all the activities I’ve had going on lately, I’m totally OK with a quiet weekend at home.  And that means that tonight we’re going to the super awesome vegetarian restaurant/temple for some good eatin’.  I can’t wait!
