anticipating the year ahead

I love the fall…it is the cusp of my favorite time of year, and it seems to hold so much promise. The days are still warm here, but the nights are starting to cool off and I can almost smell the crispness in the air. It makes me start to anticipate the upcoming holidays and the beginning of the year, a time which will be busy for us but wonderful just the same. Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, my birthday, Valentine’s Day, and our wedding anniversary fall right in a neat little row. I’m really looking forward to a holiday season that is about 99% less stressful than last year–no moving, no wedding looming ahead, just celebration. I’m also looking forward to starting new holiday traditions with my little family of two (or five if you count the cats).

I think the thing I am most looking forward to is finally getting a calendar towel of my own. Every year, my grandmother orders these amazing little vintage calendar dishtowels for all the married women, and ONLY the married women. They can be used or displayed in the kitchen (since they have a handy calendar printed on them!) and when I was growing up, they just seemed like something every good kitchen should have. I was hoping I’d get one last year, since I was so close to being married, but alas, it was not to be. It will be something I can cherish, since I have so few tangible things that my grandmother has given me over the years. I can’t wait!

This time of year also makes me feel restless…restless to do, create, whatever. I think I’m going to try my hand at National Novel Writing Month for the billionth time and see if I can get any closer to actually succeeding. I also have big plans to finish some decorating and organizing in our apartment before the holidays arrive and turn everything upside down. I have to make room for a Christmas tree!!!

I love the fall.
