in control

I feel in control of my life right now…not just in a “getting by for now” way, but in a “wow, maybe I’m getting this adult crap right once in awhile for good” kind of way. Let me brag on myself for a moment.

I handled everything from my accident. I negotiated a great price on a new car and financed it myself. I harkened to the advice from my insurance adjustor and got a great price for my old car at salvage. I’m paying the down payment on my car tomorrow–the most money I’ll have ever spent on anything at once. I bought my new laptop and I could actually afford to do so. I’m paying off three small short-term debts and a bill. I’ll have all my credit card crap from college 100% paid off in 6 months or less, leaving me debt-free before my wedding.

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Finally.

Thomas Bickle needs our help!

My friends Scott and Sarah and their son Thomas are in a time of dire need. Thomas is a beautiful little 7-month-old boy with the big, inquisitive eyes and the sweetest smile you’ve ever seen. A few weeks ago, he was diagnosed with a brain tumor and has been at Children’s Hospital ever since. The tumor was removed, but it is considered cancerous. Currently, he is on a breathing tube and is being prepared to undergo chemotherapy treatments until he is old enough to undergo radiation treatment. You can read more about his story in Monday’s Dallas Morning News article or on his blog at www.thomasbickle.com.

As you can imagine, the medical bills Scott and Sarah are facing are enormous. They are 20somethings dealing with the upkeep of their aging home, their first baby, and now they have been given more of a cross than any young couple should have to bear. Scott has been forced to quit his job in order to stay home and take care of Thomas, which is causing them to lose almost $3000 a month in income. Quite simply, they need our help.

If you have anything you can give–even the littlest amount can help. If nothing else, visit www.thomasbickle.com and leave an encouraging comment on Thomas’ blog. This is a very trying time for the Bickle family, and they need all the prayers, blessings, words of encouragement, and declarations of support (both the monetary and non-monetary kind) as possible.

pros and cons

The good:
Fresh start to the week
Vacation days in three weeks
My back is starting to feel better (finally)
Picking up my brand new car on Wednesday
Buying my iBook
Getting my insurance settlement so I can pay off the wrecked car and put the down payment on my brand new car
No longer having to deal with insurance crap
Having the first part of this project I’ve been dreading ready to turn in today

The bad:
Moving too quickly STILL hurts my stupid back
Not having my new car until Wednesday
Having to do the rest of this project I’m dreading
I don’t have my insurance settlement yet and they’re dragging their feet about it
Having to deal with insurance crap until I get my settlement
My cats kept waking me up and I only got four hours of sleep
I hate Mondays
