Ten things (in no particular order) that you can only see at the Texas State Fair:
1. a midget puking in a trash can
2. albino turtles, albino snakes–their exhibits are liiiiiiiiive
3. men walking around in leggings stuffed into cowboy boots (we never did figure out WHY)
4. some of the worst fashion choices this side of the Mississippi River
5. fried peanut butter, jelly, and banana sandwiches
6. some guy trying to return his turkey leg for one that was “more tender”
7. a ride that doubles as an airbrushed homage to Magnum, P.I.
8. $25 parking
9. t-shirts that say “Git-Er-Drunk, then Git-Er-Done”
10. Big Tex’s crotch (which was all you got in frame if you tried to take a picture in front of Big Tex)
We had a pretty good time at the fair on Saturday. Our group collectively gorged ourselves on Fletcher’s Corn Dogs, fried oreos (among other fried goodies) and funnel cakes. We rode some cheesy (or pukey) rides. Shawn fulfilled his manly duties by winning me a giant stuffed wolf/dog. We got lost on the way back to the car. Good times were had by all.

I can’t wait for Halloween this year. I was really bummed at first, because the prime Halloween weekend (just before Halloween, since it’s on a Monday for some stupid reason, sheesh!) was going to be the same weekend as the convention my old company puts on every year. It’s a grueling weekend of work, starting very very early in the morning and ending quite late at night, and I was going to have to be there instead of partying with my friends. Of course, then the new job happened and now I will be free as a bird that weekend to dress up and party on down.
Last year was a lot of fun…my friends love Halloween and did it up right proper for the occasion. Shawn and I dressed as punk rock Hogwarts students (we didn’t want to just be plain Hogwarts students), which was really just an excuse for me to wear my knee high combat boots and ripped fishnets. I will be pulling out the combat boots again this year, I believe. I already have most of the components of my costume…all I need to get are some black leather gloves, a black t-shirt, a black pleather jacket, and a cheap belt. Then, with the wonders of my craftiness and some gold paint…voila! I will have my costume. I’m going as a superheroine, one of many that will be represented at the party this year, because my friends? Are all geeks. And I LOVE IT.
Bring on the party! I’m ready.

I’ve been kind of quiet on the ol’ blog here for a week or so, but it’s been because I’ve been getting used to new things. I just started my new job a week ago, and so far I really love it. My co-workers are all really nice, and I am enjoying what I’m doing a lot. It’s a little slow in places, because the projects I’m going to be working on either haven’t gotten too far off the ground or are in the process of being shuffled around, but I think this week or next will see things picking up for me. They’re finding plenty for me to do, anyway, in the meantime.
This has been a quiet weekend…I’ve been feeling a bit under the weather so I was content for things to be easy and restful. I did see the Longhorns kick some Sooner ass, so that was pretty much the highlight of the weekend. Other highlights include sleeping in today, watching the 2nd disc of Lost, and going outside earlier and finding Nutella samples on my door–complete with coupons and crackers!! Mmmmm…I love Nutella.
I promise I’ll have more interesting things to say once I’m through with this period of adjustment…it always takes a while to find the balance at a new job. Thankfully I have MAV there to help me get used to things…it’s always nice to have a friend in a strange new place.
