Getting things done…sometimes.

I’m trying to implement “Getting Things Done” into my daily life, but it’d help if I could sit down and finish the book, huh? Perhaps I will do that this weekend on the plane to/from Iowa.

I’m headed to the land of corn and Hawkeyes for a family wedding this weekend. I get a really super short workweek (only 3 days) and an excuse to get on a plane, which I always like. I am trying to get stuff done like clean my kitchen/living room/bathroom, do laundry, pack, get cat food, straighten my hair, etc. done in the next 32ish hours, and there just isn’t enough time in the freakin’ day. *sigh*

I forget sometimes that although I don’t have a stereo, I DO have an iPod that I can hook up to my surround sound speakers, which is even better than a stereo. I don’t ever forget about the iPod, but it’s nice to know I don’t have to worry about dropping it in the sink while I’m doing dishes. Listening to it loud and on really great speakers is much better than the headphones!

I hope everyone had a good 3 day Memorial weekend. Mine was full of time spent with friends and lots and lots of ladybeers. Good times were had by all, I believe.

Back to the dishes! Peace out, MOL Nation.

may the force be with this guy

This is an actual geek captured on film, hired by the UA theater I saw Star Wars at with Shawn and Crump. Saddest part? He wasn’t the nerdiest guy there…he was far outstripped by the guy Crump and I saw walking down the street like, two miles from the theater, wearing a black Jedi cloak, jeans and a t-shirt. We were like, “OMG! Certainly he’s not really…nope, he’s wearing a Jedi cape.”

I love your new goatee! And by goatee, I mean beard. And by beard, I mean you’re fooling no one.

Dear Tom Cruise,

I thought you were just closeted, but now I know you’re actually a lunatic. I have only seen pictures of you on Oprah, but they were enough to confirm that you are crazy…like a fox.

Katie Holmes needs to run for her life and reputation. I’m not really that concerned about her virginity, because if you haven’t taken it already by sticking your tongue that far down her throat for the press, (you camera whore!) you’re obviously not going to be taking it any other way unless further press reveals that she’s really a man.

You two are even less believable than Dawson and Joey, and that’s really saying something. I mean, at least you don’t have a sixhead, but still. We know you’re gay, Tom, and so do the men in the white coats who need to gently take you away and give you some vitamins. And by vitamins, I mean electroshock treatments for the CRAZY. And maybe some treatment for the funny syphillis you seem to have given your “girlfriend.”

Love and kisses,
Jess

ActiveSync = finally pwned!

I have had trouble for months with my Pocket PC and ActiveSync, which pretty much refused to install on any PC I tried it with. I wanted to install it at work because, well, I have a Mac at home now and have harvested my old PC on the altar of Jobs. Mac software to sync my PPC costs pretty hefty $$$ (though thankfully they now have a version for $15 that I plan on getting come payday) and I have a PC at work…so why not install it at work, right? Well, that’d be all well and good if Microsoft didn’t suck my will to live.

I had nothing but problems installing it on my old work computer. So, since I just got a NEW work computer last week I figured it’d be good to go and I’d have no problems. Wrong AGAIN. I really am sick of my Pocket PC needing to be updated and having no venue with which to do it, so I downloaded the early release of ActiveSync 4.0 from teh Intarwebs, and the installation actually happened. I feel like running around the office to the tune of “We Are the Champions” (which I frequently feel like doing when I accomplish something I consider to be great) with a flag draped across my shoulders. Now I can install the software I want without having to pray that the developers have a direct installer on their website. Ahh, the glory of technology. Y’all might laugh, but it’s pretty damn cool to roll up to the coffee shop, pull out my Pocket PC and keyboard and voila! Computer.

the creative process

When I was growing up, I was always involved in the arts. I studied music intensively for a number of years, but I also was involved in dance, theater and creative writing. I was part of this constant process of creation, and I took it for granted. I had immersed myself in art and never thought there would be a time when that part of my life and my heart would take a backseat.

The creativity comes in bits and pieces now, a poem here and there, a wonderful dance that makes me remember why I started dancing in the first place. My mind doesn’t have that connect to the artistic world now, and I can only blame myself because I let it happen.

Lately I’ve been opening my mind to the creative process and I must admit that I am reaping the benefits from it. I feel so much more connected to myself again. I have started to dance again after a long hiatus from it, and I had forgotten how much fun I have dancing, and how many wonderful people I have met because of it. I have started writing regularly again, treating myself to a Moleskine (pronounced mola-skeena, for those of you who might be concerned for the moles) journal that has the most beautiful, silken paper to write on, and taking my Pocket PC and folding keyboard with me for when I want to set up a little portable writing desk at the local coffee shop or library. I have my iPod filled with musical inspiration at all times, because nothing sparks my creativity like wonderful music. It is always the one thing I can come back to for comfort, release, memory and inspiration.

I had forgotten how much I love being an artist.

move over Starbucks!

I have a new favorite coffee shop…Dunn Brothers Coffee. It’s just around the corner from my office, it has free Wi-fi, comfy chairs, good ambience, cheap Italian sodas, and computers to surf the Internet from. I can see me splitting my time between here and Tempest Tea for great writing and relaxing. They also have poetry nights, singer/songwriter open mic, live music, and actual food (can we say getting out of the office at lunch?) Hopefully they will be opening their Dallas Store very soon (and very close to my house).
